CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW PHASE TWO 2022

Name Change Proposal

Heretaunga Tamatea Settlement Trust (HTST) is required to carry out an evaluation of Heretaunga Tamatea Constitutional arrangements in accordance with section 24 of the Deed of Trust.

In 2020, HTST hosted Whare Kōrero and individual hui seeking member views of Heretaunga Tamatea constitutional arrangements. The Constitutional Evaluation Working Group prepared a report setting out 12 recommendations. One of the recommendations was that the HTST consider a name change for the Trust.

The Board has agreed to a name change and is inviting marae and hapū to put forward names for consideration.

What is the process?

Please email proposed names and the meaning of the name to review@heretaungatamatea.iwi.nz by 29 July 2022.

Proposed names will be posted on the website and can be viewed in the link below.

Whānau, hapū and marae can indicate their preferred name by emailing review@heretaungatamatea.iwi.nz. Please include the following information: full name, if you are a whānau member or represent a hapū or marae, the name(s) you support and any other feedback you wish to include.

The Board will be considering name change proposals at the 30 August 2022 Board meeting.

If a new name is agreed by the Board, it will be put forward at the AGM in September 2022 as part of the Deed of Trust changes.
