I aspire to see Heretaunga Tamatea as a cultural and economic leader; a progressive organisation with the financial means to champion Reo, Tikanga and Te Ao Māori as defined by us. I am firm believer of economic independence as the key to guaranteeing the cultural future of our people. Consequently, I am a passionate advocate for prudent and responsible custodianship of Heretaunga Tamatea assets as a means to grow our intergenerational wealth and influence.
I am an experienced public speaker in both Te Reo Māori and English, and bring with me an extensive network of strategic relationships across the Māori business and political arenas to assist in my role as a Trustee.
I have held governance roles as a Board Member of AFS Intercultural Exchange Programmes New Zealand (2004-2006), and Trustee and Treasurer of Waimangō Papakāinga Lands Trust (2010-2017). Through these positions, I understand how good governance can positively impact the performance of organisations. This experience also emphasised the importance of trustee accountability; especially the requirement of trustees to act in the best interests of those they represent.
My professional background is firmly grounded in the commercial sector, working predominantly alongside iwi to protect their assets and grow their wealth. I want to utilise these skills with Heretaunga Tamatea to safeguard our long-term economic prosperity.
Mana Tangata, defined as our ability to make positive and sustained cultural, social, environmental and political change is highly dependent on the level of economic resource we have at our disposal. I am eager to utilise my commercial and financial experience to help guide and sustainably grow Heretaunga Tamatea’s asset base, to support the reestablishment of our collective mana for my daughter’s generation, and for generations of Heretaunga Tamatea to come.
